| | | | | | | | | | | Action Alert! Help Support the Great American Outdoors Act or LWCF | | | | |
|
|
| | | | |
| | | | | Dear Chicago Wilderness Members, On June 17th, the Senate passed the Great American Outdoors Act (S. 3422), a robust lands management bill that provides permanent, full funding of the Land Water Conservation Fund ($900 million/year) in addition to addressing maintenance backlog in our national parks. On July 22nd the House will vote on their version of the bill, HR 7092. In an otherwise challenging time, this is a huge conservation milestone. Many parks and preserves in the CW jurisdiction benefit from LWCF. If you wold like to weigh in on the Great American Outdoors Act, please use this advocacy link that makes it very easy and simple for you to reach out directly to your congressional members. Studies show that investment in ecological land management leads to significant economic stimulus. Passage of this legislation will assist with the revitalization of our nation’s outdoor recreation economy as we grapple with the financial impacts of COVID-19. Attached is a fact sheet that expounds upon these benefits. If you’re interested in learning more about the Great American Outdoors Act or LWCF, please contact Susan Donovan. We’re incredibly grateful for the tireless efforts of environmental advocates across the country and members of the Midwest federal delegation in ensuring GAOA crosses the finish line. Thanks to this victory, many of our nation’s natural treasures will have access to key funding for generations to come. Sincerely, Susan Donovan

| | | | | | | | | | | Executive Council Adopts Draft Green Vision Collective Goals. Seeking Volunteers to Help Advance Next Step. | | | | |
| | | | | As Chicago Wilderness works to establish the new Green Vision goals, we need your help to identify individuals who are interested in helping in the following ways: - Crafting and refining the language of the goals
- Forming new committees or joining existing committees to collectively implement the goals
- Helping to develop operational plans that structure the work under each goal
- Identifying pilot projects around each goal to showcase success and attract outside funding
To clarify, you or the people you sign up do not need to be Chicago Wilderness members! We are interested in creating the most inclusive, transparent process possible.

| | | | | | | | | | IDNR SEEKING PARTNERS INTERESTED IN ADDRESSING SOCIAL JUSTICE VIA ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION: Governor JB Pritzker has made it a priority to address social justice via the available programming opportunities at the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). If you have any suggestions of how we can raise awareness of these environmental education opportunities for schools with a large minority student population – specifically, the Chicago Public Schools – please do share your ideas. Since many of these programs may not run due to COVID-19, I also wish to brainstorm alternative (ie, virtual) programming ideas with potential partners in this important initiative. If interested, please Ted Penesis to discuss further. | | | | |
