Join the Chicago Wilderness Alliance and our Growing with Agriculture Green Vision Initiative Team for a very special Field Day to learn about the diversity, history, preservation, and innovation of agriculture taking place in Northwest Indiana. 

Visit agricultural sites around the region that are rooted in sustainable farming practices, committed to community wellness, climate-friendly, and focused on farmland preservation. Along the way, you will meet farmers, conservationists, and other agriculture-curious people from the region.

Tickets are $50 per person and we are limited to 50 participants only.

Date: Wednesday, July 24

Time: 8am-4pm pm CST (see schedule below)

Cost: $50 per person, lunch and bus included; no-questions-asked scholarships are available

The trip will take place rain or shine, so please dress for the weather.

Schedule (all times CST and subject to change)

8:00am – Meet at Lake County Soil and Water Conservation District, Crown Point, IN

8:10am – Travel by bus to Perkins Good Earth Farm

8:45am – Perkins Good Earth Farm tour

9:45am – Travel by bus to Wappel Grain and Herb Mint Farm; b
us speaker: NWI Food Council

10:15am – Wappel Grain and Herb Mint Farm tour

11:15am – Travel by bus to Design Barn

11:45am – Lunch and presentations at Design Barn; p
resentations by Porter County Farm Bureau, Purdue Extension, Design Barn

1:00pm – Travel by bus to Meadowbrook Nature Preserve Farm; bus speaker: Shirley Heinze Land Trust

1:30pm –  Meadowbrook Nature Preserve Farm Program

2:30pm – Travel by bus to Dale B. Engquist Nature Preserve Area; bus speaker: Porter County Soil & Water Conservation District

3:00pm – Farmland Conservation and Wetland Restoration Program

4:00pm – Return to Lake County Soil and Water Conservation District

4:45pm – Optional social at Lake County Soil and Water Conservation District
