The Chicago Wilderness Alliance has partnered with August M. Ball of Cream City Conservation & Consulting, LLC to establish a benchmark of how we are doing in cultivating belonging
and equity among both the Chicago Wilderness Alliance and individual partner organizations (employees, volunteers, board members). This is the initial phase of Chicago Wilderness’ Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) work. A Culture & Inclusion Survey was launched from August 2-September 10, 2021 to help capture feedback anonymously. More than 500 people participated. Download the results below:
Free WorkshopsThe survey results informed a series of free workshops hosted by Cream City Conservation to help your organization understand and implement changes to increase justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace and in our communities. To fully benefit from the learning and opportunity for conversation among peers, we encourage people to attend ALL of the workshops. Participants who register for and participate in the full workshop series, either live or through the recordings, will receive a Chicago Wilderness certificate of participation. We recognize that certifications are not meaningful to all organizations or individuals and are inherently biased toward specific kinds of learning; however, we want to honor the fact that building understanding of the history of racism and path toward equity is just as important as the other kinds of trainings available to the conservation community. We welcome your thoughts on this training as we are all striving to do better as individuals and institutions. Workshops
Roadmap Process The Alliance is in Phase 3 of our JEDI Project with Cream City Conservation: Roadmap Development. Based on the results of our Culture Assessment and internal knowledge, we have identified a few key areas for internal improvement and increase the Alliance's capacity to serve its partners and increase support across the region. A working group has identified initial areas of focus and a survey has generated a list of volunteers and preliminary feedback to inform our next steps: About the survey The goal of the Chicago Wilderness Culture Survey is to identify blind spots and highlight any disparities in experiences of Chicago Wilderness Alliance members and CWA member organization’s team based on social identities. Frequently asked questions about survey. With Appreciation
