City Nature Challenge 2022 banner

May 9, 2022 update:

Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2022 City Nature Challenge! We hope you had fun and appreciate the observations you provided. We hope you stay involved by joining us on iNaturalist throughout the year. Your observations help scientists and others with their conservation work. The next City Nature Challenge will be April 28 - May 1, 2023; stay tuned for updates.

Whether you hiked at Illinois Beach State Park, explored the Indiana Dunes, or birded in your backyard, your Metro area nature sightings helped this year’s City Nature Challenge! Participants from over 400 cities around the world shared observations of wild plants and animals in the Chicago Metro area from April 29 through May 2.

Your nature sightings become data that helps scientists better understand and protect nature for all of us.

You can still take part by sharing your photos of plants, animals, and fungi to iNaturalist or helping other people with identification.
