The Lake Plain Coastal Preserves is an ecological complex of nearly contiguous natural areas spanning the Wisconsin–Illinois border along the western shore of Lake Michigan. Led by Lake Plain Coordinator Belynda Alberte, the tour will include stops at Illinois Beach State Park, Spring Bluff Forest Preserve, and Chiwaukee Prairie State Natural Area.

Discover the natural heritage of the Lake Plain and explore the ecological and cultural significance of several of its remarkable natural areas. Along the way, learn how the Lake Plain Coalition brings diverse partners together to protect this landscape as one connected ecosystem.

Morning field trip schedule:

  • Note: there is no bus for this trip - participants drive themselves to the tour stops.

8:30am Meet at parking lot southeast of North Point Marina for check-in. North Point Dr, Winthrop Harbor, IL 60096

8:45am Intro to the Lake Plain Coastal Preserves and the Lake Plain Coalition

9:00am Illinois Beach State Park

10:00am Spring Bluff Forest Preserve

10:45am Chiwaukee Prairie State Natural Area

12:00pm Return to parking lot southeast of North Point Marina

LUNCH WILL BE PROVIDED
