Join other community scientists throughout the greater Chicago Region taking part in the City Nature Challenge. Educators at the Ryerson Welcome Center will orient you to the iNaturalist app (or Seek for young explorers) so you can take pictures and record wild plants and animals at Ryerson and later in your own backyard. Information gathered is used by scientists and researchers to better understand and care for nature throughout Lake County and beyond. Educators will share iNaturalist tips and tricks at the Ryerson Welcome Center to prepare participants to start their journey and observe nature at their own pace.

This event is FREE and open to all ages. Adult supervision required. Event registration is not required.

A smart phone is needed to use the iNaturalist or Seek app, which is free to download in the app store. We recommend downloading before the event over Wifi to minimize data usage. Participants can still take part in the event without a smart phone, but observations will not be recorded as part of the City Nature Challenge.
