Join the Chicago Wilderness Alliance and partners for an exceptional day of peer-to-peer conservation learning to explore the Milwaukee Arborist Apprenticeship Program and Milwaukee Municipal Nursery with the Alliance’s urban tree canopy group.

Discover how the Arborist Apprenticeship Program finds and defines success and what lessons they have learned. Led by Randy Krouse, City of Milwaukee Urban Forestry Services Manager, the Field Day is also an amazing opportunity to deep dive into the topic of urban forestry.

We will meet at one of three pick-up points (see schedule below) and travel by bus to all sites. 

No matter your area of expertise, all are welcome to join us for this informative day of professional development and networking!

Date: Wednesday, August 7

Time: 8am-3:40 pm CST (includes bus pick up and drop off at 3 stops; see schedule below)

Cost: $50 per person, lunch and bus included; no-questions-asked scholarships are available

Transport: Meet at one of three locations for pick up and travel by bus to all sites; if you are unable to get to one of the three pick up points, please email Laura Reilly for accommodation. Parking at the event is extremely limited.

8:00 am: Bus pick up at Union Station, Chicago
8:35 am: Bus pick up at LaBagh Woods, West Foster Avenue, N Cicero Ave, Chicago
9:20 am: Bus pick up at Old School Forest Preserve, Mettawa, IL
10:30 am: Arrive or meet at Milwaukee Municipal Nursery in Franklin, WI
10:35 am: Welcome, Randy Krouse, City of Milwaukee Urban Forestry Services Manager
10:40 am: Background on Milwaukee Apprenticeship program
11:10 am: Observe chainsaw safety training, discuss training provided to each cohort
11:40 am: Tour Milwaukee Municipal nursery
12:10 pm: Travel by bus into Milwaukee
12:35 pm: Observe cohort of apprentices climb and prune trees and discuss the types of activities and oversight planned with new cohort
1:00 pm: Lunch, networking, and discussion
1:30 pm: Load on buses and depart
2:30 pm Drop off at Old School Forest Preserve
3:10 pm Drop off at LaBagh Woods
3:40 pm Drop off at Union Station
