The African American Heritage Water Trail memorializes the remarkable stories of African Americans who utlized and settled along the Calumet River: freedom seekers who traveled the Underground Railroad, trailblazers who defied discrimination, learned to fly, and became Tuskegee Airmen, and pioneers in the struggle for civil rights and environmental justice.

This field trip will be an opportunity to learn more about an innovative approach to recreation, cultural engagement, community-based conservation and site activation. PADDLING TRIP FULL Features multiple sites featured along the African American Heritage Trail including Chicago Finest Marina, Major Taylor Bridge, and Robins History Museum.
