Extremely invasive species are taking over beautiful local yards, countryside and roadsides. These invasive species crowd out desirable native plants, deprive birds and butterflies of nourishment and habitat on which they depend, and reduce biodiversity, creating a monoculture of undesirable plants. This program will cover some of the most invasive species, how to identify them, methods to eliminate them, and native plants to replace them when appropriate. Flyers will be available on the CLC website for several invasive species for reference and perhaps to educate your neighbors! (Invasives know no property boundaries!). We encourage you to eradicate these invasive plants in your own yards and neighborhoods.

Peggy Simonsen is on the Board of Chicago Living Corridors and is active with Citizens for Conservation. CFC sponsors Habitat Corridors, which provides assessment and recommendations to homeowners in the Barrington area to improve habitat by eliminating invasives and planting native plants on their property. She has been a volunteer with Citizens for Conservation for 16 years. Peggy practices what she preaches, having restored her wooded yard in Palatine with over 200 native species.
