Model Policy Papers
Chicago Wilderness members produced these model policies through a collaborative process over the course of more than two years. Scientists, land managers, local government officials, and a wide variety of professional and volunteer conservation experts contributed to the process. The resulting documents provide background information and general recommendations on two important topics: conserving wooded communities, and using controlled burns for natural areas management.
On November 19, 2003, the Chicago Wilderness Executive Council voted to adopt these papers as recommendations representing a general consensus among consortium members. Individual member organizations also have the options of adopting the recommendations themselves, adapting the recommendations for their own uses, and/or using them to demonstrate and build support for their own land management practices.
A third paper presenting sustainable development principles for the Chicago Wilderness region is also under development.

CW members can use these tools to communicate with their audiences
