Members of Chicago Wilderness

Fourteen years ago, 34 diverse and determined organizations looked beyond the limits of what each individual organization was capable of accomplishing and launched an alliance with a regional, collaborative conservation vision.

The founding members included federal, state, and local agencies; public land management agencies, conservation organizations; and scientific and cultural institutions. The alliance has expanded to include municipalities, high schools, universities, homeowner associations, park districts, and corporate partners. Today, more than 250 public and private organizations are working together to protect, restore, study and manage the natural ecosystems of the Chicago region, contribute to the conservation of global biodiversity, and enrich local residents’ quality of life. Although individuals can not join Chicago Wilderness at this time, you can become a friend of Chicago Wilderness by subscribing to Chicago Wilderness magazine, a quarterly magazine that celebrates the rich natural heritage of this region. Individuals can also make a significant contribution by volunteering to restore our unique natural areas.

Chicago Wilderness Corporate Council

The business community has a profound influence on the region’s biological diversity through its people, land development and management practices, political activity, philanthropy and the shaping of public opinion. For that reason, Chicago Wilderness formed the Corporate Council.

The Chicago Wilderness Corporate Council strives to improve the quality of life in the region by connecting economic goals, ecological health standards and social values to achieve a sustainable relationship between people and nature.
