Speak Out

You can help protect natural resources in the Chicago region by becoming educated and involved, and by speaking out in favor of policies that preserve our natural heritage.
You can contact local officials as well as their senators and congressional representatives and advocate programs that protect and acquire natural lands. As an individual citizen, you can also advocate zoning and city planning methods that take nature into account. Careful planning can help create more pleasant communities and a healthier environment. You can also become an advocate for biodiversity by sharing what you know about the importance of nature and biodiversity with others.
The Chicago Wilderness Biodiversity Recovery Plan presents the conservation and restoration recommendations that have been approved by the Chicago Wilderness consortium. In order to build on the plan, consortium members have developed additional model policies on important conservation issues. The model policies present background information and recommendations on the conservation of wooded lands in the Chicago region and the use of controlled burns for land management. A third paper on sustainable development principles for the Chicago region is also being developed.
