Jump in and swim the waters of Chicago Wilderness:

Illinois Beach State Park
Located on the lake front in Zion, IL

This state park stretches six and one half miles along the shore of Lake Michigan. Swimming is a major attraction in the summer. Parking and bathhouses are available. No lifeguards are on duty. For more information, call (847) 746-2845.


Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore
Chesterton/Porter, IN

This national lakeshore has the third highest number of plant species in the National Park system and dunes dating back to Lake Michigan's birth. Visitor features include foot trails, horse trails, bicycle trails, parking, toilets, visitor center, a picnic area, beach and bathhouse. For more information, call (219) 926-7561 ext. 225.


West Beach Natural Area, Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore
Located one half mile north of County Line Road and Highway 12, west of Ogden Dunes, IN

This site is an excellent example of ecological succession. It features beach, foredune, intradunal ponds, blowouts, jack pine forest and forested dunes. This is a good site for swimming, sunbathing, hiking, birding, and nature study. For more information, call (219) 926-7561.
