There will be a training for the first ever citizen science monitoring program for the crickets, katydids, cicadas and grasshoppers of the Chicago region. Learn the 12 most common and easily identifiable insect calls of Cook County with naturalist Carl Strang and learn how to listen with Eric Leonardson of the Midwest Society for Acoustic Ecology. We will listen for insect sounds and make recordings to identify as a group. All participants will receive monitoring materials and pick a site to eavesdrop on all summer. RSVP for this program by contacting singinginsects@gmail.com.
