American author and naturalist Henry David Thoreau traveled through northern Illinois and the Midwest in the spring of 1861, during which time he wrote about scores of native plants and wildlife. Thoreau scholar and former Elgin High School librarian Corinne H. Smith will lead an evening travelogue of the famous transcendentalist’s last and longest journey. She will describe Thoreau’s routes, the sights he saw and documented, and what you can see in those same places today, more than 150 years later. Copies of her book, "Westward I Go Free: Tracing Thoreau’s Last Journey," will be available for purchase and signing. Advance registration is required. Call 630-444-3190 or email to register.
