The Chicago Park District is hosting a free public open house and tour of Park 564 (Big Marsh) for a behind-the-scenes tour showcasing the environmental challenges and restoration potential for the planned natural area at Big Marsh. Park District staff and project parters will provide information and answer questions about:

  • Plans for future site access, public enjoyment and recreation
  • Environmental legacy and challenges
  • Ecological significance and restoration efforts

Tours start 10:30 and 11:30 a.m.

The tour will include a discussion of the phasing work and how Big Marsh will be turned into a vibrant natural area and public amenity.

Limited parking is available on-site. The event will occur rain or shine. Weather-appropriate jackets, comfortable outdoor clothing, insect repellant and sunscreen are strongly suggested. Guided tours may include walking through rugged terrain and dense vegetation. Sturdy, closed-toe shoes or hiking boots are advised. Big Marsh is an unrestored post-industrial brownfield that is currently closed to the public and event attendees will be required to sign liability waivers upon entry to the park.

Contact Byron Tsang at or Lauren Umek if you have any questions.
